As we get closer to starting automatic tuition in November we will be posting some articles around the subject.
The first in the series will be a look at the pros of learning in an automatic car.
As all learners start out on their journey to passing their practical test their aim is the same - gaining those skills and ultimately that test pass so they can drive out on the road independently. For an increasing number of learners there is no real preference about how they go about getting to that point.
As such, an increasing number of learners are looking towards automatic tuition as their preferred method. When you consider the potential advantages, it's easy to see why.
No clutch control/gear changes needed - When we talk to beginners one of their biggest fears is the use of the clutch - whether that is getting the car moving from stationary or whilst changing gear. Well, when driving an automatic car there are no such worries - just select the direction of travel then press the accelerator.
Inclusivity - Automatic cars give a far greater level of inclusivity than manual cars. Drivers who have certain physical, mental or medical conditions will struggle to learn in a manual car. However, the ease of use with an automatic car means that tuition is available to far more people. Something that we at Distinction Driving Tuition are passionate about!
Stress-free driving - Although some would argue that driving is never absolutely stress free, driving an automatic car can get you that bit closer. Do you feel scared at the thought of doing a hill start - it's far easier in an automatic! Do you intend to do a high amount of city/rush hour driving - it's far easier in an automatic! Are you just generally anxious about learning to drive - learning in an automatic will give you less to worry about!
Cost - Although this isn't always the case, it's generally accepted that if you were to compare like-for-like it would require less lessons to pass your test in an automatic car. As such, the overall cost should be lower. Learning to drive in an automatic car does not guarantee a 'quick pass' but the majority of drivers will find it easier. As the cost of everything in life increases, it makes sense to save money where you can - especially if there other advantages as well.
Now, we'd be lying if we tried to make out that these 'Pros' were the same for everybody or that there weren't also some 'Cons' - as such we will cover the potential cons in our next article, as well as crushing some of those myths.
We hope you've enjoyed reading this article and we look forward to seeing you out on the road soon!
